F2 Azerbaijan: Durksen fights past debutants for maiden victory in sprint race

Dennis Hauger and Logan Sargeant complete the podium as MP Motorsport and Carlin take top honours.

A chaotic and entertaining Formula 2 Sprint Race at the Baku City Circuit saw David Beckmann claim his maiden series victory.

The Trident driver started on pole position but was immediately passed by championship leader Felipe Drugovich at the start.

However, Drugovich was handed a five-second time penalty for a jump start, which dropped him down the order.

This handed the lead back to Beckmann, who was able to control the race from the front and eventually take the chequered flag ahead of Dennis Hauger and Logan Sargeant.

It was a first win of the season for Beckmann, and his first in Formula 2 since 2019.

Hauger and Sargeant completed the podium, with Liam Lawson and Frederik Vesti rounding out the top five.

Drugovich eventually finished eighth, with Ayumu Iwasa and Ralph Boschung also in the top 10.

The result means that Drugovich still leads the championship standings, but his advantage over Hauger has been reduced to just seven points.

The next round of the Formula 2 championship will take place at the Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom on 1-3 July.
